Smokvica

Location of Smokvica creates the perfect conditions for vineyards, olive growings and various other forms of agricultural activities. Here are the most productive growing regions of Pošip, an autochthonous high-quality white wine grape. 

Fertile soil, water and ideal location led to colonization of Smokvica since ancient times. Main landmark is the Neo-Romanesque church of Purification of the Virgin Mary, rebuilt on premises of older church. There are also several aristocratic residences here. Early medieval churches in the vicinity are also interesting. Memories of the battles with the Turks are still preserved in Kumpanija saber dance.
