Mostar

Mostar is a city on the banks of the Neretva River in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As it is located in the Muslim-Croat region, mixing of different cultures may well be observed here.

Most interesting is the old town of Mostar, which is located near the famous Bridge (Old Bridge). This city was founded during the reign of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century. The bridge was destroyed during the civil war in 1993. The restoration of the bridge started in 1999, original stones were collected from the bottom of the river and under the supervision of Turkish builders familiar the old construction techniques, the bridge was completed in 2004. It became UNESCO World Heritage Site one year later. The atmosphere of the city resembles Orient and its mysteries.
